WATERKEEPER ALLIANCE PRINTS A MAGAZINE TWICE A YEAR detailing the status of the world's water ways, as well as important events and efforts being done to ensure our water remains clean and safe. BoyBurnsBarn was asked to refresh the look and feel of the magazine and establish a signature voice for the publication that will place both emphasis and credibility to the message.
We did this by maintaining a content first approach but looked for ways to make that content more engaging and alive on the page. Starting with only blocks of copy we analyzed each story before mapping out the book itself. Once a plan was in place a more active, adaptable grid was created for layouts which gave us dynamic compositions and better relationships between word and image. In addition to overall layout, we employed illustration, information graphics and stylized headlines to elevate the brand of the magazine and lock in the reader.
