LOCATED ON THE GROUND FLOOR OF THE WIT, AT THE CORNER OF STATE AN LAKE STREETS, in downtown Chicago, is the gastropub bearing the same name of the iconic intersection. State and Lake is a restaurant with an intimate vibe cultivated from a palette of rich, warm earth tones and complementing materials like soft leather, wood and cork. From this comes an environment that is equally comfortable to eat dinner and not feel like you're in a bar, or grab a beer and not feel like you're in an uptight restaurant.
It's hard to ignore your address when you sit on such a famous corner. We embraced this with the identity. A simple typographic treatment easily represents the name and location of the restaurant.
Materials being an important part of the interior, we carefully selected paper and printing techniques to match the environment. Any opportunity to burn a logo into wood is a good one. On the menu, the logo was literally branded into the wooden menu holder on each side. Letter press and nice thick pulpy papers were also used to complete the look. The attention to detail is to be experienced throughout a patron's stay.
