EIGHT UP, LOCATED IN THE HEART OF BOURBON COUNTRY, LOUISVILLE, KENTUCKY, SELF DESCRIBES ITSELF AS AN “ELEVATED DRINKERY AND KITCHEN.” Located on the 8th floor / rooftop of the new Hilton Garden Inn in downtown Louisville. It boasts unparalleled views of the city in a glass indooor / outdoor setting, two bars and a kitchen preparing big and small plates. More importantly EightUp serves over 100 bourbons and whiskeys making it an unofficial MUST stop if you’re making your way along the bourbon trail.
BoyBurnsBarn was tasked with creating a brand that bridges the earthiness of Bourbon Country with the sleek and modern hard edge style of a rooftop bar and kitchen on top of a hotel. To do this we crafted an clean industrial visual language paired with a thick but diverse color palette.
The logo is a bit of a visual trick. Its both the number “8” as well as the stacked letters “U” and “P”. Therefore in one shape we see the full name Eight Up in a lean vertical shape that speaks to its roofy location. The rest of the design elements rely on heavy all caps typography, thick rules and very open letter spacing. Thus taking on the feel of many-an-old-school-bourbon-label while still matching well with the restaurant itself.
A major highlight to Eight Up is the fun cantilevered sign we developed. Literally perched under what is the floor of the restaurant and looking straight down to the sidewalk below are the illuminated words “HANG UP”. As in “Come hang up here”. Or perhaps a subtle suggestion to hang up that phone and come have a drink. There’s nothing more perfect for a rooftop restaurant than a sign that looks straight down at you and makes you look straight up at it. Come hang up at Eight Up!
