BIRD DOG, LOCATED IN DOWNTOWN PALO ALTO, IS A RESTAURANT HELMED BY PEOPLE INSPIRED BY Northern California, Japanese culture and cuisine, but also wherever they recently traveled to or ate last. As they put it “a multi-cultural pile-up of sorts”. In other words they’re inviting you on an adventure with them as your birddog, or guide, to a new adventure cuisine.
The approach, as well as the client’s direction, was to keep things simple and then add whimsy afterward…That’s essentially what we did, and continue to do with this brand. When you work with really fun people who are serious about what they do while at the same time believing in a very casual approach to life you want to give them a brand that can bob and weave with them. This is how the BirdDog look and feel developed. Some of the graphics are very obvious and cute. Feather collections and graffiti covered wooden ducks are really engaging and enjoyable to look at unto themselves. Put them in the very zen facade that is the BirdDog restaurant and you have a genuine experience.
The “less is more… but then add some of the more just for fun” is always a cool way to work. BirdDog is and continues to exemplify that fun approach to life.
