Waterkeeper Alliance wanted to get the word out about the dangers of storm water runoff. Stormwater runoff is the number 1 source of pollution in the United States causing beach closings, fish kills, toxic algae blooms and rivers choked with mud. Animal droppings, pesticides, car oil and garbage on the street more often than not finds its way into our streams and rivers. Getting the word out that a storm drain does not flow to a sewer treatment plant but rather directly into out water ways is a huge priority.
BoyBurnsBarn took up this challenge by crafting a hand out we titled "SEEP" to be given out at the SPLASH Event Series by Waterkeeper. The design being an extension of the SPASH brand incorporates illustrations as infographics demonstrating, in a way even the smallest child can understand, how storm water pollution works. These illustrations accompanied by the educational information along side unfolds to an 11x17 poster to be hung in the class room or at home on the refrigerator.
The final piece is concise and visually appealing. A good combo when crafting an urgent message. We love combining smart illustration into our design process, especially when the end result is educating people old and young in a simple and direct way on something this important. Very fulfilling!
