BoyBurnsBarn was chosen by Plinko Design and HOW Design Books to contribute work to a unique book project they published in 2004. Here are the details:
The concept of remixing music has become common place, with musicians routinely offering up alternative versions of each other’s work. While the remix still references the original version of the song, it can stand on its own, as an entirely new recording.
A few years ago, it occurred to me that the artists and graphic designers could mirror the remixing process of musicians. By using the source files and the design brief as the basis of the remix, designers could take the original elements and create entirely new designs with them.
From there, designers from all over the world received the original file, and were told only basic information about the original piece. They were free to use as much or as little of the original as they wanted. Ultimately, the project is not about making a design better, its about different approaches.
We were delighted to be invited to participate. Even better, the original artist, Patrick Castro said of our work, "As much as I like them all BoyBurnsBarn's stands out as the best combination of message and presentation."
